You sure can! Here's one of my favorite cookie recipes. They're called welsh loafs, and cooked on the stovetop, so they're kind of unique.
3 c. flour
3/4 c. sugar
2 or 3 eggs
1 c. dried cranberries
1/2 Ib. butter
1 tsp. salt (scant)
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. nutmeg
Sift flour, sugar, salt, baking powder cranberries, and nutmeg. Add shortening and mix like pie dough. Add eggs and a few drops of milk so dough holds together. Make balls and flatten. Bake on both sides on hot griddle on top of stove as pancakes until lightly browned.
